Officials with the county’s Mosquito and Vector Control District say the number of infected mosquitoes is higher than last year. Aaron Devencenzi with the district says the insecticide is harmless to humans.
"We’re using a product that is similar to products that are used by homeowners and gardeners also similar to what’s used in head lice type shampoos – a pyrethrum based product that is a quick knockdown for the mosquitoes."
Crews are spraying both rural and urban areas, including Rough and Ready Island, Bishop Tract, Oak Grove Park and Bacon Island. The spraying is expected to continue off and on through the summer.
