Business Journal: CALPERS HMO Costs Up Slightly
Those who buy HMO coverage through the California Public Employee Retirement System may be seeing the smallest increase in years.

The Health Benefits Committee at CalPERS is recommending an increase of 7.4% for 2008 … that’s the smallest increase in a decade for HMO coverage. It’s far lower than the rate increase coming into 2007. There’s a local twist as well. The committee suggests that Western Health Advantage be dropped. It’s Sacramento based, and has 24,000 members in six counties who would be affected. But it can’t meet CalPERS mandate for expansion to other parts of the state, and doesn’t satisfy requirements for data and disease management. The full board of CalPERS will vote this week on the recommendations.
