The private, Catholic university opened a small graduate program in downtown Sacramento two years ago. Now it’s received 200 acres of donated land in Rancho Cordova from developer Conwy LLC, for the main campus. Construction should begin in three years. Ultimately, an enrollment of 7,000 graduate and undergraduate students is expected, with a university payroll of 2,800 new jobs. It will cost more than $1 billion to create the campus. Sacramento County officials hoped to have it at Mather Field nearby, and will keep promoting that to the Legion of Christ, the organization behind the new university.
