City officials say it’s all but certain the council will approve the 965 million dollar budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1st.
Gus Vina, assistant city manager, says it includes more than a dozen positions for 911 operators:
At the top of the list for council was the hiring of additional 911 dispatchers ,which they approved, costing approximately, a million dollars, for 15 additional dispatchers.
The council also approved 1 point 2 million dollars for 15 operators to staff new 311 system, which will handle non-emergency calls. At the beginning of the budget process, the council said public safety would be a number one priority. Eight new police officers are included in the proposed budget. But Councilman Robbie Waters says he wanted significantly more than that.
