One of the best-known businesses on K Street could undergo a major renovation.

An investment group from the wine country is close to completing a deal for the Crest Theatre on the K Street Mall, with possible plans to add more performing arts at the decades-old theater. Jim Brennan, president of the investment group in St. Helena, has held brief meetings with Crest management, detailing only a few plans to renovate the theater that originally opened in October 1949. The Crest underwent its latest remodel in 1995, when two smaller theaters were added downstairs of the main 975-seat auditorium. The theater, which is used mostly for art house and foreign movies and film festivals in recent years, would need to undergo a renovation for live performances. The Crest is owned by a group of trusts from a longtime Sacramento family. This is Ron Trujillo for the Business Journal.
