CHP Sergeant Les Bishop says the Senator hit a center divide guardrail on I-80– making what he called an “unsafe turning movement.” He says she also rear-ended another car on state route 12, while driving her vehicle at “an unsafe speed.” In both instances Bishop says Migden’s use of a cell phone was a contributing factor.
The CHP has recommended the Solano county District Attorney charge Migden with reckless driving. And the highway patrol has asked the Department of Motor Vehicles to re-evaluate Migden’s fitness to drive.
In a statement, Migden said she was very sorry about the accident she caused. She said that she is not driving, and is undergoing a medical evaluation. She announced shortly after the crashes that she has been battling Leukemia for ten years, and her medication may have been a factor.
