They’re holding a Teen Traffic Safety Night to coincide with graduation season and the start of summer vacation. Doctor Leon Owens – a trauma surgeon at Mercy San Juan Medical Center – will speak at the event. His son was killed in a DUI car crash. Since then, Owens has helped create legislation to prevent teen DUIs.
"To impound vehicles upon arrest for second time DUIs and get them to what we call a brief intervention in order to see if we can stop this very dangerous behavior."
According to the CHP, 10 people have died and 217 injured in teen-related DUI and drag racing crashes in Sacramento County over the past 2 1/2 years.
Thursday night's event will be at the Wackford Community Complex from 6:30 to 8 o’clock.
