When you go to the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, you can hear a lot of different kinds of jazz: ragtime, swing, mainstream and Latin, not to mention other genres like blues and zydeco.

With such a wide variety of sounds all under the banner of “The Sacramento Jazz Jubilee”, it can get a little confusing. So we sent Steve Milne out to pose the question: exactly what is jazz?
