Scientists had planned to broadcast recordings of attacking killer whales to scare the animals back to saltwater today but decided instead to give the pair a rest. But Ed Sweeney with the US Coast Guard says Fridaythey’ll take a different tactic.
"They’re planning to use a high-pressure hose from a fire boat in Vallejo – around the animals, not at them but around the animals."
The scientists are also working on a plan to inject the whales with antibiotics to help their wounds heal. They will likely use a syringe attached to a pole or a dartgun to administer it. The whales are still in the Rio Vista area.
