Crystal Cream & Butter is one of Sacramento’s venerable old companies … founded in 1901, the privately owned business generated $182 million in the most recent available numbers, 2005. Its staff numbers 500. The buyer is HP Hood, also family owned, which was founded in 1946 … and it’s ten times larger than Crystal. In January Crystal agreed to sell its 8 acres on D Street in Sacramento to a developer. Its primary ongoing operation is on Belvedere Avenue, also in Sacramento. A company spokesman says it’s too early to discuss future plans, a union representative wasn’t available for comment.
