Organizers determined the 10 thousand dollars the half marathon raised should go to the American River Parkway Foundation.
Foundation Executive Director Annemarie Vincent says volunteers for the organization do all kinds of upkeep on the parkway:
We do restoration work, it might be something like planting trees. We do trail maintenance. We do beautification projects. We do clean-up. And we participate in a variety of conservation efforts.
The money raised by the race will also help buy supplies that are used for events like the Foundation’s first parkway clean-up of the year, scheduled for Saturday, May 12th.
The half marathon is the first ever to be held on the Parkway.
