Passenger trips on light rail in Sacramento rose 16% last year, a third straight year of double-digit increases. Three new extensions in the last few years have helped fuel the numbers, including a 9 mile extension to Folsom that opened in 2005. Bus ridership, however, is in decline. Last year it dropped 2%, and the year before it was down 4%, in these new numbers from Sacramento Regional Transit.  RT has been shaving off unproductive routes, and service to Elk Grove has become the province of that city’s new bus service, called e-tran.
