Rod Wilson with the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians says they’ll start construction of an 83-thousand-square-foot casino while work on the freeway ramps is underway.

"And now the tribe will finally be able to have direct access to its land and come and go as it pleases and this is just the stepping stone towards the economic development to come for the future of the tribe."

The casino was held up for years by lawsuits over traffic impacts. But the project cleared a major hurdle last September when the tribe agreed to pay El Dorado County $190 million over 20-years to make road improvements designed to ease traffic congestion.
