One of California’s oldest art contests is looking for participants.  The State Fair Fine Arts Competition is open for entries.
Carol Buchanan, with the Fair, says just about anything qualifies as fine art.  That includes painting, sculpture, jewelry, even computer generated art.

"We have the art of culture and we want images of diversity, ethnicity…..  We have a special division for western and equine art, because we are, after all, a state fair.  We also have a special division called the green dream and it’s on the green theme."

Painter Early Boley of Carmichael has been a winner several times.  He says prior experience isn’t necessary.

"First time artists should get to work and put their best thing out there."
The deadline for entries is May 25th.  The fair gets underway in mid-August.
