California State University Sacramento will request proposals in May from about 20 residential developers who’ve expressed interest in the project. It would have up to 450 single-family houses, townhouses, and multiplexes, on 25 acres south of campus. A park and some stores would be included. Faculty and staff would buy the buildings, but not the land. That way the university can keep the housing more affordable than market value over the years as the units are sold and purchased by other employees. It’s hoped that the project will help to retain and attract employees.
