Shootings at Virginia Tech Prompt Response from State Officials

In a statement Governor Schwarzenegger called the shootings unprecedented carnage that inflicted horror on the whole country. The state Assembly held a moment of silence.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell says the shootings will prompt a special message to all campuses. 

 “I will be communicating with every school here in California this week, reminding each school to update and review their emergency plan their safety plan that are required by state law…”
Cal State University officials say a law approved in 1998 requires universities to have agreements and collaborate with local law enforcement agencies. In a statement, U.C. President Robert Dynes said their prevention efforts include training of campus police and increased attention to psychological support for students.
