Governor The Star of New Public Service Announcement
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is starring in a new public service announcement to persuade military personnel to come to college in California.
Monday, April 16, 2007
The new announcement features the governor promoting the state’s Troops to College initiative:
I want all active duty and military personnel to know that I want you on our campuses.
It’s the state’s attempt to ensure the 96 percent of vets who sign up for education benefits when they join the military use them to go to a California school when they get out.
Jeff Weston, with Sacramento State, is on the state’s Troops to College team. He says the governor’s appearance in the announcement is of the utmost importance:
It shows the troops that this is coming from the top, that the whole state’s involved with this.
Figures from the federal and state government show only 50 to 70 percent of military personnel are using the GI education benefits they paid for.
