With tax day coming soon, State Controller John Chiang wants to remind California taxpayers to check to see if they qualify for the federal earned income tax credit:
Last year, we had 460 thousand California families that did not file for the earned income tax credit.  They can get up to 4 thousand, 5 hundred dollars back.  We can’t make these kinds of mistakes.  We certainly want all California families to get their money back.
The earned income tax credit is provided to low income families and individuals.  They can collect it, even if they don’t owe any taxes.
