Business Journal: New Food Rules For Wineries
Tensions between wine growers and homeowners in El Dorado County are close to an end.
Wednesday, April 4, 2007
The Board of Supervisors in El Dorado County are updating an old ordinance, from the days when wineries were few and new residential communities didn’t exist. After negotiations, proposed changes would prohibit restaurants at wineries in rural areas. The size of tasting rooms would be limited. Home-baked pies, as at Apple Hill, or pre-packaged foods suitable for vineyard picnics would be allowed, however. Some allowance for special events is also being made – for weddings, for example. Homeowners in new neighborhoods have been objecting to all the traffic and commercialization.
