City council members Tuesday night will start talking about how to create a more aggressive strategy for dealing with climate change. Mayor Sue Greenwald calls it the “Carbon Reduction Footprint Program.”
"We’re pretty well-known for our progressive environmental planning policies now we find ourselves in a position with most other cities of feeling that urgent action is necessary to avoid the pending ecological disasters."
She says they won’t be discussing any specific projects. Instead – they’ll be talking about the framework for their strategy, including forming a citizen task force that would include experts from UC Davis and state government.
"We have amazing citizen expertise in Davis and we’re hoping to harness that."
City staff is recommending the council come up with a short-term action plan and develop formal global warming pollution reduction targets.
