Big retailers sometimes relocate … but level one of their stores and replace it. It means months of no sales at all, with customers going elsewhere. But right after Christmas, Target hopes to raze its store in Rancho Cordova’s largest shopping mall and build a new one, a third larger, in time for the ’08 holiday season. A city official says the outcome could mean an extra $200,000 a year in local sales taxes over the long term. It’s also hoped that better traffic flow will result, and other big-name retails could be lured to the center. Target had considered a relocation at one time.
