Health officials in the Sacramento region are teaming up for the next month to focus awareness on ovarian cancer. It kills more than 16 hundred women each year in California.
Art therapy for ovarian cancer patients and anyone touched by cancer is offered at Sutter Cancer Center in downtown Sacramento.
75 year old Angela Haskins, an ovarian cancer survivor, participates in the program. She says it helps her get in touch with her feelings:
It’s just kind of finding out who I am, and what’s going on in my mind, as to how it comes out in my artistic endeavors.
Sacramento State is featuring an art exhibit by a Massachusetts sculptor as part of the awareness month.
At UC Davis, lectures for the public and a conference for health care providers are on the agenda.
