Newly released research says about ninety-percent of us aren’t meeting federal recommendations for fruits and vegetables.  So health officials are re-vamping the Five-a-Day program into a new marketing initiative called Fruits and Veggies—More Matters.

Elizabeth Pivonka with the Produce for Better Health Foundation says the new marketing effort targets mothers.  She says their research shows Moms want a new approach.

“Don’t preach to me, don’t make me feel guilty, don’t overwhelm me with information just help me, give me new ideas on how to incorporate fruits and vegetables into my family’s diet …”

The new campaign offers tips on how to add more produce every day.  State health officials say Californians are doing slightly better with that—they’ll release new statewide data on those eating habits next month.
