The Board of Supervisors Tuesday will consider offering Mike Daugherty $100,000 a year for 10-years to keep his Chevrolet dealership on Fulton Avenue. Daugherty would also be expected to remodel the building.
Paul Hahn, the county’s economic development director, says Daugherty’s dealership is a major tax generator that they don’t want to lose.
"You know, it’s always a threat for him relocating and this will assure that he won’t be relocating anywhere and that he’ll not only not be relocating but investing on Fulton."
But Jon Coupal with the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer’s Association is against the plan. He asks – what about the next car dealership down the road?
"Fulton Avenue has quite a few car dealerships. Now is this going to set a benchmark against which other car dealers are going to want similar benefits?"
Mike Daugherty Chevrolet employs nearly 200-people. County Economic Development Director Paul Hahn says the deal with Daugherty would help efforts to revitalize the Fulton corridor.
