Spectators cheered as the cyclists approached the finish line during stage two of the race yesterday near the state Capitol:
Cycling fan Ray Rutherford said he felt lucky the race made a swing through Sacramento:
Pretty amazing having this caliber in Sacramento, it’s basically the Tour De France in our back yard basically.
Fellow spectator Rick Hitch says the entire state is ideal for a world class bike race:
I think California is the perfect state for a tour. It’s got sunshine, it’s got cities, it’s got mountains, it’s got views, so I think it’s a great place for a tour race.
The winner of stage two in Sacramento was an Argentenian rider.
The only cyclist from Sacramento in the race crashed, but did manage to finish.
Mark Wharton, who came out with his six year old son, says more Sacramento riders could be in the race, especially with the cycling opportunities here:
I’d say it’s a great opportunity to experience the geography we have, and I think California, especially Sacramento, has a phenomenal series of bike trails.
The race started out last Sunday in San Francisco and continues Stage 3 today from Stockton to San Jose. It will end this coming Sunday in Long Beach.
