Every region in the state would get some money for congestion relief under the plan. The draft includes 2.8 billion for 43 different projects.
About 1.2 billion of that is headed south, to the Los Angeles and San Diego areas. The Sacramento valley would receive about 250 million, and the northern part of the state would receive roughly 200 million. Transportation Commission Executive Director John Barna says there will be oversight to ensure the money’s spent well – and on time:
“We know that these are complex projects – costs are likely to increase, schedules are likely to slip, but having said that, there’s a way that those projects can stay on track, on course.”
The recommendations also include funding for an additional 29 projects in the future. The draft must still be approved by the commission.
