Mayor Fargo has lived with MS for the last 10-years but waited until now to announce it to the public.

"I always felt that if my MS got to the point where it was noticeable on a regular basis I probably should share that news and I think it’s gotten there."

But she says other than some difficulty walking, she feels fine.

"I’m still doing the job, still putting in the hours, still doing the traveling I need to do."

Multiple Sclerosis is a disease of the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nervous system and affects anything from mobility to vision. Fargo says she’ll take on an activist role in fighting MS.

"There are just different opportunities to speak out on behalf of people both understanding the disease and supporting the research efforts."

One of the first events she plans to take part in is the annual MS fundraising walk in Sacramento on April 22nd.
