In a familiar battle between environmentalists and developers, Placerville might reach a compromise. Developers are proposing a retail center near Highway 50 and Missouri Flat Road. It would be the largest retail center in the area. This is the same spot a previous center was planned for but nixed by the Army Corps of Engineers due to fears it would destroy surrounding wetlands. This time, developers propose anchors, shops and restaurants that would wrap around the wetlands. The project would need approval from the county’s Planning Commission. But if given the green light, the center would aim to open by the fall of 2009.
