Learning About Child Protective Services
The inner workings of the county Department of Child Protective Services could become less mysterious to the public. At least to Sacramentans who take part in an upcoming Citizens Academy.

Sharon Saffold, with Child Protective Services, says many people think all the department does is take abused children away from their parents. But she says the academy teaches otherwise:
The first night of the seminar we go around and ask people what they think when they hear the word Child Protective Services, and a lot of them talk about removing children, fear. And throughout the seminar we do evaluations and people come back with, “Wow, there’s lots of services you do with and for families.”
Saffold says citizens should consider enrolling in the one hour a week seminar, because taking care of the community’s children is everyone’s business.
The Citizens Academy begins February 21st and continues for 7 weeks.
