Three weeks ago, Carl Otto, a general building contractor, was honored before a large crowd as the Businessman of the Year by the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. On Sunday, he died, at age 60, the victim of a massive heart attack. Carl Otto was the president of John F. Otto Incorporated, begun by his father in 1947. An avid runner, he worked on many Sacramento buildings, ranging from the new federal courthouse to the Firehouse restaurant.
Business leaders say he will be best rememberd as a philanthropist, who gave extensively to local non-profit agencies.
