Supervising Park Ranger John Havicon says a mountain lion was seen over the weekend.

"Our caretaker – who works over at Ancil Hoffman Park – he was putting some stuff in the dumpster and saw the mountain lion running away from that area. We found a deer carcass over there so apparently he was working on a deer."

The animal has also been spotted in Harrington Park and William B. Pond Park.

Havicon says mountain lions typically avoid people and attacks are extremely rare but if you do encounter one, do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise, wave your arms and throw rocks.
