Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to indefinitely delay a vote of the people on the nearly ten-billion dollar high speed rail bond… And he’s proposed slashing the High Speed Rail Authority’s budget in the next fiscal year to just over a million dollars—down from 14-million. The Authority’s Chairman, Quentin Kopp says it isn’t good for morale.
“People are working! They generate a work product! If that work product stops it won’t be useable ten years from now…”
Kopp says more than 100-million dollars is needed for the coming year. Kopp says he will lobby the legislature to improve the budget funding. That would put the spotlight on the Governor to either support it or not. A spokesman for the Governor’s Department of Finance says it’s a matter of priorities and Schwarzenegger’s emphasis is on building roads, schools and water projects.
