William Foster, Governor's Office
It’s no secret Governor Schwarzenegger is a big fan of fitness. The former body-builder has even included incentives to be active in his health care reform plan. Now he has a new challenge for the youngest among us
At Will C. Wood middle school in Sacramento, about 100 students gathered behind Governor Schwarzenegger as he announced his latest challenge: to get kids exercising for 30-60 minutes a day, 3 times a week….for one month:
“You have to look at exercise like eating and sleeping as part of life. It’s something that you have to do every day and when you do it every day you will feel great, you will feel fit and you will also stay healthy.”
8th grader Nancy Saetern was excited to meet the Governor. She says she already exercises, but may do more now:
"I think it’ll inspire people, like, cause, since he’s the governor, of course people will do it, you know?"
The Governor’s Challenge includes a competition among schools throughout the state. Those with the most students taking part will win money for gym equipment. The grand prize: a new fitness center. Prizes will be funded by a charitable foundation.
