In the last census, two years ago, they counted nearly a thousand homeless. Yolo County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Mariko Yamada says that number may have gone up.
"Given the economic downturn that we’ve seen throughout the nation and certainly locally those numbers are anyone’s guess at this point we certainly hope that we won’t have too many more but I’m not so sure, I’m not sure this time. I think it’s pretty clear that we have more need than we have had in the past."
They’ll also be conducting a survey during the census to find out the social characteristics of the county’s homeless population. Yamada says the census will help Yolo County get more money from the federal government. The count will be Tuesday, January 30th.
