City leaders announced the proposed property tax hike Friday. Stein Buer, who heads Sacramento’s flood control agency, says the amount of the tax would vary.
"What people need to understand is that the assessment cost share that each property owner is going to be asked to carry will be in proportion to the estimated flood control benefits that they receive."
Buer says the tax would stay under $100 for most residents and would help bolster Sacramento’s flood protection to a 200-year level. Property owners will have a chance to vote on the proposed tax increase in March.
