Nor-Cal Beverage in West Sacramento has given layoffs notices to about 160 workers in its carbonated soft-drink division, after more than 65 years in the business. The company is selling its franchise and distribution rights to Dr. Pepper, Squirt, Hawaiian Punch and other brands … and looking for additional buyers as well for the rest of its line. Industry consolidation has been forcing independents out of the soft-drink business. Soft drink distribution comprised about 30 percent of the company’s $150 million business. But Nor-Cal will continue as a distributor for Anheuser Busch.
