Yee is replacing Illa Collin who retired. He says one of his main issues will be making sure Sacramento has enough money to prevent a flood.

"That includes, federal, state and local and I emphasize the local funding because we can’t get federal and state funding without our local share and whether that will be assessments or not that’s something that we have to take a hard look at."

Yee - who is the first Asian American elected to the board – will represent areas like Land Park, the Pocket area, Greenhaven and parts of South Sacramento. His 4-year term starts after a swearing in ceremony Tuesday.
