It’s been nearly a month since NBA Commissioner David Stern came to Sacramento to meet with local officials about building a new facility for the Kings. Mayor Heather Fargo says Stern promised to call her the day after their initial meeting with an update, but that never happened.
"Well I’m a little disappointed but I expect I will hear back at some point when they have something to share. If they call that’s great and if they don’t then we’ll see what happens next but I’m assuming he’s going to call back, that he’ll have information or he’ll have some ideas or somehow close the loop."
For two-days in early December, Stern met with city officials, private developers and editorial writers to gather suggestions for a new arena plan. Stern says a new arena will need public financing but in November voters rejected a quarter-cent sales tax hike to pay for a new facility. A representative for Stern, John Moag, did not return our request for comment.
