I put in my address, which is next to a levee in the Pocket, and my risk came back in the red zone, for HIGH.   I bought flood insurance when I moved to the area, but Les Harder with the state department of Water Resources says many people living near levees in Sacramento don’t buy the coverage.

If you’re subjected to deep flooding, it will be a personal tragedy.  You will have major damage to your home and to your valuable property.  Flood insurance allows you to recover.

Harder says he hears many people say flood insurance is too expensive.  But he says the average cost for a homeowner is around 350 dollars annually, about what most people spend on their cable t.v. service a year.
