Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez says he wants to build on what he calls a proven strategy—and that is employer-provided health coverage.

“We will require both employers and employees to contribute a fair share to the cost of health care coverage…”
But how much that “fair share” is —and other costs of the proposal are still being worked out…

Nunez says his plan would also extend public coverage to uninsured children—including the undocumented-- by expanding the state’s Healthy Families program.

Assembly Republican leader Mike Villines says Nunez’s proposal would force employers to cut jobs.  Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says he applauds the Speaker’s contribution and will unveil his plan next month—he has said his will require everyone to carry some responsibility for coverage.
