Governor Schwarzenegger calls the additional costs borne by insured Californians a “hidden tax”. After touring an L.A. area emergency room Schwarzenegger referenced a study by the New America Foundation that estimates about 10-percent of California health care premiums can be attributed to cost shifting to pay for care for the uninsured.
“As a matter of fact each individual pays an additional 400-to-500 dollars in these hidden taxes… so they get hit every time they come in contact with our broken healthcare system.”
Schwarzenegger says he has spent the last eight or nine months working on a health care proposal that he will unveil next month. He says everything will be on the table when it comes to working out the issue with lawmakers but says his proposal will not include new taxes.
