Monday’s grand opening of the new UC Davis Health System Education Building and library means for the first time all UCD med students will be based in Sacramento. Before now, 1st and 2nd year students trained on the Davis campus while 3rd and 4th year students studied at the Sacramento campus.
"Having everybody learning together will really be a positive experience for our students."
Claire Pomeroy – the new school’s vice chancellor and dean says it’s important that all students learn close to the actual UCD Med Center hospital.
"So that the students are right next to the clinical environment in which they will be working."
One of the school’s third year students - Amy Harley - says the new $46 million school adjacent to the Med Center will enhance their experience.
"Right now, some students learn physical exam skills not even in an actual clinic room they’re actually in sort of a lab room in Davis and so they have this new clinic suite where it’s got 8 exam rooms."
Congresswoman Doris Matsui and other dignitaries are expected at Monday's groundbreaking.
