In 2005, Reno opened a new homeless services campus. The facility is already over run and has had to turn people away. In response, Washoe County opened an emergency shelter, and as of now, no one seeking a place to sleep is without a bed.  Dr. Michael Rodolico runs a free health clinic located in the heart of Reno ’s homeless area.  Last year the infirmary served 5,000 patients. He says that’s more than double the number from six years before.

More and more of them are working poor … working uninsured or working homeless … they maintain a day job or different kinds of employment, but it’s just not enough …

In the past, Washoe County provided hotel vouchers when the shelter was full, but this year, increased demand for services warrants the creation of an emergency facility.
