Business Journal: Auto Mall Wars
The auto mall in Elk Grove is now completely full…which is bad news for Florin Road’s future.
Monday, December 4, 2006
Elk Grove’s Auto Mall has announced four more dealerships coming there. The auto mall already generates 30% of the city’s sales tax revenues. Created in 1999, it’s 20 acres larger than the Roseville Mall, once the region’s biggest, and now it will be completely full. Once again there are defections from Florin Road, where the number of dealerships has shrunken from 13 to just seven. The executive director of the Florin Road Partnership says dealers like the low overhead there, but manufacturers want them in malls. The Winter Volvo Lincoln Mercury dealership is leaving Florin Road for Elk Grove.
