John Mansoor with the marathon says the race is known by runners around the world as a first class event.

"There’s no question, we have attracted a lot of people from all parts of the country and the world, largely due to our fast course. Many of the runners are coming here in hopes of qualifying for the US Olympic Marathon trials and those trying to run a personal best."

He says runners representing 20 countries and 41 states will compete in this year’s marathon. The number of runners taking part is up 20 over last year.

Fair Oaks Boulevard and other nearby roads will be closed much of Sunday morning to accommodate the race.
