Over the past 36 hours as
much as 20 inches of snow has fallen on parts of the northern Sierra. Both routes 50 and 80 are snow covered and
under chain restrictions, and traffic is moving slowly. According to Shelly Chernicki of Cal Trans,
snow plows are on the job and no accidents have been reported.
I know we’ve had to hold traffic a couple of times
for vehicles that have spun out … but no actual accidents.
Sugar Bowl’s Greg Murtha
says the resort got 18 inches of much needed new snow.
So the mountain is looking in good shape … we hope to
be opening the top of the mountain this weekend.
Currently, only one run is
open at Sugar Bowl, and all regional resorts report thin snow cover. According to the National Weather Service, no
more snow is in the immediate forecast.
