On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Schwarzenegger said Democrats and Republicans would work together this year to bring down healthcare costs and insure everyone….but he didn’t give any specifics. Executive Director of Health Access California, Anthony Wright, says the debate over the cost will be tough:
“The question is are those the overall costs – are those the costs to taxpayers, versus the cost to business as opposed to consumers.”
Shortly after the election, Field Poll Director Mark DiCamillo said the health care issue would test the bipartisanship in Sacramento:
“There are so many interests involved – so many complicating factors that relate to how do you get people covered and relate to the cost of insurance and relate to things that are one people’s minds such as the quality of care.”
This year, Schwarzenegger vetoed a bill that would have created a statewide universal healthcare system.
