In October
of last year, a
South
Shore
man attacked his girlfriend with a
2-foot long sword, until police intervened, narrowly saving her life. In March of this year, a
Tahoe
City
woman was beaten to death inside
the home she shared with her boyfriend.
And last Sunday,
Jazmin
Gonzalez-Morgado was brutally murdered by an estranged
partner. Michelle Prestowitz of Tahoe
Women’s Services says, despite these high profile cases, many believe affluent Tahoe
is immune from domestic violence.
Everyone thinks its an idyllic setting… everyone must
be happy … everyone’s going boating or skiing or whatever the season may be;
but statistics show, nationally, one-in three women experience some form of
domestic violence in their lifetimes …
Tahoe
women’s services assisted more than one thousand people in 2005. But despite receiving counseling for domestic
violence and a restraining order, last Sunday, Vazquez
Galicia
turned himself into police after allegedly
killing his exgirlfriend with a hammer.
