This year’s goal is 300 turkeys – but so far they’ve only collected about 50. Spokeswoman Tamara Pacada says they hope the rest will come soon.
"We are getting a little bit concerned but we also know that the community is very generous and we’re looking forward to their assistance. What we’re going to do is use many of those turkeys to serve at the Volunteers of America shelters and then anything leftover will go to the families in our transitional living programs."
She says 300 turkeys will be enough to feed the more than 1,500 men, women and children that they serve.
You can drop off donated turkeys at Volunteers of America’s Central Kitchen at 700 North 5th Street near Richards Boulevard, Monday through Friday between 8 AM and 6:30 PM.
