Linda Tucker with the city’s Transportation Department says the two-block wide deck would be more than a bridge.
"It would create a balance of land uses. It would include a park and numerous economic opportunities for not only the structures that are being planned perhaps to be built on top of the deck but around the deck."
Three designs are being considered. Each would stretch from Capitol Mall to O Street, covering about 4-acres. The project would cost between $200 and $400 million.
You can see the plans for yourself during an open house Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at the California State Association of Counties at 1020 11th Street.
